VectRx (NeoTherma Oncology)

NeoTherma Oncology is pioneering a new technology for cancer treatment. This groundbreaking device implements a type of radio frequency (RF) thermal treatment that is expected to increase the efficacy of current cancer treatments.

We developed multiple versions of this device for NeoTherma, helping their technical experts test and improve the design.

Liberty Bell 7 Display Case (SpaceWorks)

Custom museum display case for the Liberty Bell 7 space capsule. Designed from the ground up, the case is sealed with temperature and humidity controls. This case is configured to be a travelling exhibit. It was an honor to help preserve such a unique piece of space history.

40 Foot Toolbar Applicator (AgSynergy)

This product is something that we have been incredibly proud to be a part of. The goal was to design a toolbar for both liquid and dry fertilizer application with maximum flexibility.

Weighing in at close to 40,000 lbs, this toolbar was carefully engineered to match the user’s needs and give them multiple configuration options. The 40′ span was designed to flex to match the contour of the terrain. This, combined with row units having a long range of travel, allowed the implement to handle almost any field.  The entire toolbar folds to be under the Oversized Load restrictions. A second set of tugs and an attachment allowed for 31 or 32 Row Units.

We helped AgSynergy develop this toolbar going from idea to manufacturing and production. In addition to creating the designs, we oversaw the project, managing a small team. We created the project schedule and helped our client focus on their unique vision for the product and their company.

72′ Rice Boom (Sage Ag)

Designed specifically for the rice fields of California this implement had several challenging design criteria. Specifically, a 72 foot wingspan that minimized weight, folded to under 102 inches for transport, and could absorb the repeated field motion and abuse.

We developed this product, going from concept sketches, through prototype testing, and finally to a minimum viable product that shipped to the final customer. Multiple booms have sprayed 100,000+ acres without issue. We’ve done multiple follow on projects and continue to help them improve the product.

Industrial Equipment: Large and Small

We have completed a number of projects designing custom process equipment. These projects have been incredibly varied. Some key features included;

  • Carbon Steel and Stainless/Sanitary
  • Large and Small
  • Machined and Welded
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Explosion Suppression and Containment

Many projects shipped overseas and required adherence to international standards.  For each we took customer specified information and created a design custom tailored to their needs while also optimized to flow through the production process.

The examples shown below are similar to previous projects and are representative only. They are meant to convey the type of equipment we have experience designing.

Remote Camera Housing

This housing was designed for a unique application; To mount a remote camera where it might be hit with a bullet.

The purpose of the project was to allow for bench rest shooters to view their targets at 300 to 1000 yards. Careful consideration was given to limit any flat surface exposed to the target benches. The housing was rolled to maximize deflection to the dirt bank behind the target. Stainless, weather resistant, plate steel was used to shelter the camera housing from the elements. 7 gauge and 1/4″ plate were used to ensure that in the unlikely event that the housing were to be hit it would not damage the internal device.

Folding Cookbook Stand

My client wanted a custom cookbook stand.

I created this version, designing each component in SolidWorks and machining the required parts.

The final product is constructed from food grade stainless steel and can be run through a dishwasher. The rotating arms keep cookbooks open. The back feet fold in, allowing the stand to store in a kitchen drawer.

Functional 3D Prints

Now that the 3D printing hype has died down the technology is often relegated to the realm of a cool toy, used to print figurines, tchotchke’s, and other items of questionable use.

However, there are many day to day uses for 3D printing that someone with a basic skillset can utilize. From reverse engineering plastic components to designing solutions for little annoyances around the home, 3D printing is a great tool. Typically, in less than the time it takes to go to the store, a part can be drawn and loaded to the printer. Then, a few minutes or hours later a custom part can be installed. All for less than a couple dollars of plastic.

This post is an ongoing reel of useful parts I have designed and printed.
